About Me

My photo
Hello, let me introduce myself a bit...I am a wife, a mother, a grandmother, and a retired labor and delivery room nurse of 38 years. Since retiring, my days have become mostly calm and unstructured. My Fluid Days blog is part of that life, though not updated at this time. My Hadrian's Wall Blog is the journal of our 100 mile walk across England in 2009 and again in 2010. My Dales Way Journal is about another long-distance hike we did in September of 2014. Russ, my husband and best friend for 46 years is my walking companion. He keeps me laughing and makes every day a joy.

10 Days Prior to Hike

Welcome to Dales Way Journal,  my account of a long distance hike through the Yorkshire Dales in September 2014. My husband, Russ, and I live in Nampa, Idaho, are both retired, and love to travel. We also enjoy walking, so once again we are combining both favorites--A walking trip in England. It's been five years since our first cross-country walk--Hadrian's Wall National Trail--and four years since we repeated that amazing walk in 2010.

This blog/journal will have only about a dozen entries since it is specifically for our pictures and information about Dales Way. If you are considering doing this hike, we hope this will give you a glimpse of what it was like for us, and possibly help you with planning your trip as well. My Hadrian's Wall Journal is much the same. If you're interested, you can find it here: Hadrian's Wall Journal

The dates of the entries will not correspond with the dates of our walk. That is because I will not be posting them at the end of each day and most likely will not get it done until we return home. Click on any picture to enlarge it. Anything in bold blue will be a URL link to that particular B&B, inn, historical site, etc.

Russ and I are not young--both in our late 60's--and not quite as strong as we were a few years ago  when we walked Hadrian's Wall. But we're anticipating a great experience walking in some of the most beautiful countryside in the UK. Bless the Brits for their love and encouragemnt of walkers. Nowhere in the US will you find even one trail like the dozens of cross country hikes in England, where you can hike all day on groomed trails, often on private land, and still find comfortable lodging at the end of your day. We have contracted with Contours Walking Holidays who booked all of our B&Bs, inns, etc., and arranged for our luggage transfers. They provide maps, insurance, daily schedules, information on public transportation, checklists of what to take with you, and what to do in case of an emergency. Sherpa Van will make sure our luggage is waiting for us every day when we arrive at our new lodging. So....

Hope you enjoy the trip!
